Toad House - 두꺼비집
About This Spot
Stepping into Toad House – 두꺼비집 – feels like uncovering a cherished corner of Seoul tucked quietly in the heart of Los Angeles. This unassuming spot doesn’t shout for attention, but once inside, there’s a comforting hum of familiarity that invites you to slow down and savor the moment. The space is intimate yet unpretentious, a retreat from the city’s fast pace where the rhythm is set by sizzling grills and the quiet chatter of neighbors gathering around tables.
Here, the experience centers on connection — both to the food and to those around you. Thick-cut pork belly, perfectly balanced between fatty and lean, arrives paired with an array of kimchis and fresh greens, turning every bite into a warm conversation between flavors. The bubbling stews and hearty soups, rich with comforting spice and depth, enhance that feeling of shared comfort over a meal. It’s not just dinner; it’s an invitation to experience the subtle art of Korean barbecue done with patience and care.
What makes Toad House linger in memory isn’t only the thoughtful preparation of its dishes but the gentle, welcoming atmosphere cultivated by its longtime team. Here, the familiarity feels real — not staged — and there’s a sense of continuity, as if you’re stepping into a story that’s been slowly unfolding for decades. This is a place where locals find a quiet kind of joy in the simple act of gathering over excellent food, away from the flash and pretense of trendier scenes.
Those seeking authenticity won’t be disappointed by this modest, tucked-away gem. It’s less about spectacle and more about the richness of human moments, where each meal becomes a shared celebration of subtle flavors and slow, easy company.

Food is insane, service just as good. Definition of a hidden gem (which is wild because they’ve been around for 20+ years). Can’t recommend this place enough.

Pork belly is good. It’s thick and fat portion balance is good to enjoy meat flavor enough. With stir-fried kimchi and green onion kimchi make more perfect. Stew goes well with meat. Staff is also friendly and good service :)

We visited 1:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. The door was closed but a lady came out and let me in. Customers were only is but we had good service. We had pork belly BBQ, squid and beef tartar which didn’t disappointed. We paid total $160 for three people.

If you like pork belly Korean style this is the place! It's a hole in the wall but delicious. When I am here I feel like I am in Korea:)

Literal hidden gem. If you're looking for an authentic traditional Korean BBQ experience, look no further. 도꺼비집 (Toad House) is one of the BEST I've had in LA. Super underrated and extremely overlooked. The atmosphere and food is soo good, I felt like I was actually in Korea. The owner is super cool and actually really funny. Don't fall for those typical fancy looking Korean restaurants, serving you low quality food for stupid high prices. 12/10.

What a hidden gem. I dare say the best kbbq I've ever had in Koreatown and I've tried all of them. You should get the 삼겹살, 항정살 and 고추장찌개 for sure.

“Toad House is a hidden gem. The samgyeopsal was thick, juicy, and had the perfect smoky flavor. Grilling it with the green onion kimchi took it to the next level. The place has a nostalgic old-school vibe, and the owner was super friendly, making the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back!”
